Our promise
How we pick what goes on this site
You are probably reading this at a point in your life where you cannot afford to be given bad information. So here is exactly how this site works, in plain language.
Who we listen to
The reading list pulls in new writing from people who genuinely know this subject: family lawyers, mediators, therapists, courts and parenting organisations. We check every publisher before we add them, and you can see the full list on the publishers page.
We also filter hard. If an article is not really about divorce, separation, custody, co-parenting or the money and feelings that come with them, it does not appear here, even when it comes from a publisher we otherwise trust. General news is somebody else's job.
Why we send you somewhere else to read it
Someone sat down and wrote that article. They deserve the visit and the credit, not us. So for anything we did not write, you get the headline, who published it, when, and a short summary of what it covers, and then a link straight to the original. We do not copy the article onto our own page and we do not lift their photographs.
It also means the reading list is not competing with those publishers in Google. It exists so you can find good writing in one place, not so we can rank above the people who did the work.
What we write ourselves
The how-to guides, the comparisons and the reviews are ours. When we call something an editor's choice, that is a judgement we made and we tell you the reasons behind it, including the parts we did not like.
We list the date we last checked a price, because these companies change their plans without telling anyone. Always confirm the current price with the provider before you hand over a card.
How we make money
We may earn money through partnerships with companies in this space, which is what the advertisers page is for. It costs you nothing to use this site.
This is information, not legal advice
Everything here is general. Family law is different in every state and it changes, and nobody on this site knows the details of your situation. Read it, use it to ask better questions, then talk to a qualified professional where you live before you act on anything.
If you are in danger, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is on 1-800-799-7233, or you can text START to 88788.
When we get something wrong
We will. A price will be out of date, a feature will have changed, or we will have described something badly. Tell us through the contact page and we will fix it and say what changed. We would much rather hear it from you than leave a parent acting on something that is no longer true.
If you are a publisher
We show your headline, byline and a short summary, and we link back to you. If you want your feed removed, your credit worded differently, a correction applied, or you want to talk about licensing more than a summary, email us through the contact page. We act on removal requests within the same week and usually the same day. There is no need to file a formal notice first.
